Call for a railcard for the North of England
The Campaign for Better Transport are calling for a railcard for the North of England to address regional inequalities and are asking for you to help by supporting their campaign.
Published: 31 May 2024
We know that public transport provision is woefully uneven around the country. It’s a complicated picture which we’re campaigning to change, but there is one regional inequality which could be fixed really quite easily.
Rail passengers in the south east of England can get a third off fares thanks to the ‘Network Railcard’, which costs just £30; but no such regional railcard exists in the north of England.
It’s high time the north-south railcard divide was closed. We’re calling for a railcard for the north of England, giving passengers one-third off the cost of off-peak rail fares, helping boost northern economies, tackle road congestion and reduce carbon emissions.
