Chairman’s Report 2023/24

Finance – The Council has committed funds to infrastructure projects throughout the year but remains in a healthy financial position with significant surplus funds still available for future projects.

  • 11 Council meetings held over the last year

  • Village grass cutting and maintenance of planters was undertaken by Mr G M Adamson.
  • Hedge cutting and Christmas tree and decorations completed by C.A. Clayton
  • Various village maintenance works completed by B.K. Parnaby and sons
  • Ongoing provision of MUGA, outdoor gym equipment and children’s play facilities.
  • New website and councillor emails
  • Two new defibrillators and PIR lights at the village hall installed
  • Work on-going on the replacement of obsolete streetlights and improvement to street lighting
  • Planning permission gained and work commenced on the replacement of the sports pavilion
  • Councillor surgeries held monthly at the Sports and Social Club’s Saturday Social events
  • Projects approved for village gateway signs, VAS signs and a new footpath at 5 Lanes End.
  • Raised residents’ concerns about HGV’s through the village and developments at East Leeds Airport with North Yorkshire Councillor and the planning and highways departments, set up a working group and engaged a planning consultant to look into the issues.

The Chairman would like to formally thank his fellow Councillors and the Parish Clerk for their hard work and support throughout the year.  Thanks also go those volunteers in the community assisting with the management of the MUGA, the Ulleskelf Emergency Flood Group and the Pavilion project.
